Saturday Free Pick - CF 10/8/11

It's a busy college football day -- so we will go with a play on perhaps the biggest game of the day: OK at Texas.  We like Texas at home getting +11 points.  The public does not -- so we are seeing some line value and line movement.

Please check out my book on some of the betting trends I look at:

Saturday Free Pick - CFB 9/17/11

Today is College Football Saturday, and our favorite pick of the day is  No. Ill +17.5 over Wisky.  This is one of the heaviest-bet games of the day - and we like the +17.5 points you can grab.  As mentioned in our book on college football betting trends, we like games with a lot of betting activity -- as well as home dogs -- with lopsided-betting activity.

Saturday Free Pick - CF 9/10/11

We like Penn State over Alabama today.  We like the double-digit points for a home dog -- especially whenthe public is all over the favorite.  Some good value based on research in my book.

Sports Investing Books -- NFL Preseason has started!

With the NFL Pre-season underway, please check out these books that I have been involved with -- in terms of research, angles, and some writing.

This book focuses on approaches for the NFL.

This book is more general but talks about "investing" in the sports marketplace in general.  Good, contrarian, "sports investing" approaches that will help you improve your handicapping results.

Sports Investing Books

I have been involved in several book projects to help sports bettors improve their results.  These are not get-rich methods -- but years of historical data and statistical research have shown that these approaches can yield a measurable edge.

These betting tips and strategies can be used as a stand-along approach -- or can be used to add an additional edge to your own handicapping.

There are short, focused, books on college football -- and professional football -- as well as an overview on the approaches in a more general (but longer) book.  The books have been popular best-sellers on Amazon within their category of Sports>Gambling.

With the football season nearing, the books have been selling again.  Good luck!

Thursday Free Pick - MLB 8/4/11

Yesterday, the line value play (based on public sentiment) got us back on the right track -- and we're going with a similar play today.  We're taking a pitcher we have gone with lately -- P Humber and the CWS at home -- against the "mighty" Yankees.  Most people like the Yankees, and the line has been bid up -- so grab the line value.  You may want to watch the line -- as steady betting on the Yankees could create even more value.  -jc

With football season coming up -- sales of my book have been increasing again.  Last year was a standout year for college football & the NFL.  Please click on my book to the left for more information about the NFL book (and links to the NCAA Football book).

Sportsinsights Highlights

Thanks for visiting my blog.  I post free picks -- in a sort of "play of the day" format -- and have been doing decently.  I also post articles related to sports betting from time to time.  Today, I wanted to highlight one of my favorite sports betting websites (Sportsinsights.com), especially because their blog helped me to pick up two units last night.  (The big NBA games: Boston-Chicago; Nuggets)

Some of my favorite sports-related links are at the bottom of this blog.  (My blog reading list is posted on the right-hand-side.)  Sportsinsights is my favorite site because I believe they offer a "real edge" in the sports gambling arena.  They collect and analyze betting lines from several real offshore sportsbooks.  More importantly, they have access to betting percentages that can be used to "poll" public sentiment and get an idea where contrarian line value might exist.

I have known the guys at Sportsinsights for many years -- and think they are stand-up guys.  Full disclosure: I have even done some research with Sportsinsights data and collaborated on their series of books.  I have performed solid academic research and have shown that a contrarian approach to sports betting provides an edge (at a statistically significant level).  Their "square plays" and "best bets" perform decently and are "true" pre-published results.

Unfortunately, even Sportsinsights does not claim to have some magic formula.  Many of their approaches are in the 53%-56% level.  However, I would rather take a small -- but real -- edge, than have my head in the clouds...

I DO try to improve results with other handicapping methods -- but that's for another blog post.

NFL Betting Systems -- Playoffs

I recently noticed that one of my more popular blog posts -- is the mention about my book on "NFL Betting Systems," available at Amazon. The post is at this link:

In the book, I collaborated with SportsInsights and used an academic approach to study long-term data and NFL betting systems. There are some variations and methods that seemed to work even better for the NFL playoffs.

With tomorrow's NFL Conference Championships coming up fast, I wanted to highlight some indicators and betting systems that I use for the NFL Playoffs:
  • As always, I look at public sentiment.
  • I also weigh public opinion against the media and "big" stories that can sway the public and create value.
  • NFL regular season performance can, of course, tell a lot about how strong a team really is: how good is the defense, how have they done against quality opponents?
  • Line movement and live value can be a good indicator. Sometimes, we grab the line value, and sometimes, on small line movements, we like to follow what the syndicates may be doing.
The parity in today's NFL makes for some interesting results. Just think of the Jets taking out the Patriots after getting whipped just a few weeks earlier!

I will post my NFL picks later today.

Football Results and Book's Research

The methods described in my books have had a great start to the football season, with college football hitting at more than a 60% rate, and the NFL currently close to 60%. Long-term results are not this good, but my research has shown that there is a definite edge to contrarian approaches in sports gambling.

In essence, I try to maximize value by studying public sentiment, getting clues from the media (newspapers, radio, television), and studying line movement.

Check out the college football research and approaches, which have been particularly hot.

My Book on NFL Betting Systems

Please check out my book on NFL Betting Systems. I take an analytical and academic view of the NFL sports betting marketplace and try to study ways of obtaining value in the NFL marketplace.

The book is called, "Sports Investing: NFL Betting System" -- and has been one of the best sellers in its category.

Blog, Book, Publisher

Earlier this year, I contributed to another sports book. Soon, I will be coming out with a few books on specific sports betting systems that focus on contrarian value methods applied to football: both for professional football (NFL) and college football. Please keep your eye out for the books, which should be out before football season starts!

I started this blog at the suggestion of my publisher, BCDadvisors, to get the word out for the book. I'd like to thank my publisher for the ease in which my ideas are getting "down on paper." I also think that they had a nice marketing plan "thought out" for the book.

Note that I list several other blogs in my blog list (some are suggested by BCDadvisors, but I don't mind helping fellow authors if it's interesting info). I've always liked trading and finance -- which I think applies to the sports betting world!

Happy 4th of July!
